Micro-weddings are here to stay
Why Micro-Weddings Are Here to Stay
Imagine standing at your wedding, surrounded only by the people who mean the most to you — your closest friends and family. There’s laughter, tears, and every hug feels like it matters. This is the magic of a micro-wedding.
Weddings are getting smaller and more intentional. As couples rethink what they want their celebration to feel like, the micro-wedding trend has shifted from a temporary response to events like COVID into a lasting choice for couples worldwide.
Honestly? I couldn’t be more excited about it.
What Makes a Micro-Wedding So Magical
A micro-wedding is an intimate celebration with 50 guests or fewer, focused on the couple’s closest family and friends.
It can be elegant or casual, traditional or unconventional — the scale is smaller, but the meaning is everything.
Think of all the familiar wedding elements; a ceremony, a beautiful dinner, dancing, and heartfelt speeches.. but with more space for connection, personalization, and presence. That’s what makes intimate weddings truly unforgettable.
Why We Fell in Love with Micro-Weddings
During the “new normal” days of COVID, we wanted our couples to keep their dreams alive, not put them on hold indefinitely.
Since we’ve always worked with destination couples remotely, the shift didn’t disrupt our process. However, it opened the door for something new.
We created our micro-wedding and elopement packages, and very quickly, something became undeniable: a guest list of 35 feels completely different than a guest list of 350.
There’s space for real moments. Room to breathe. Time to connect with every single person in the room.
Planning these weddings was refreshing. Couples weren’t sweating the small stuff or chasing perfection, they were simply excited to celebrate love in a way that felt authentic.
We also noticed a beautiful shift: couples who canceled large weddings discovered their micro-wedding wasn’t “less than.” It was different, yes — and in many ways, deeper. The romance, emotion, and magic remain, even with fewer guests.
And with smaller guest lists, many couples chose to splurge intentionally: the higher-end florist they always wanted, the dream photographer, or a tasting-menu dinner. Quality over quantity became the standard.
More Venue Possibilities for Intimate Weddings
A smaller guest list unlocks unique micro-wedding venues that wouldn’t work for a 200-person event: an art gallery, a cozy restaurant with incredible food, a rooftop at sunset, a private garden, or a tucked-away space with personal meaning.
Additionally, micro-weddings make destination celebrations possible. Imagine an entire weekend with your loved ones, full of laughter, adventure, and unforgettable memories.
The Freedom to Splurge Where It Matters
Micro-weddings naturally shift the budget conversation.
Instead of stretching resources across hundreds of guests, couples can focus on what truly matters:
- A five-course dinner
- A specialty bar
- A live musician or band
- Floral installations that transform the space
- A photographer or videographer you’ve admired for years
As a result, every detail feels intentional, and the celebration becomes deeply memorable.
Deep Connection and Shared Moments
Intimacy is the heart of a micro-wedding. Consider:
Swapping round tables for one long banquet table so everyone feels connected
Sitting among your guests rather than at a separate sweetheart table
Creating seating charts based on shared interests instead of family lines
These are the moments couples remember most: laughter, closeness, stories, and the feeling that everyone was part of something meaningful together.
Why Couples Can’t Stop Choosing Micro-Weddings
Planning a micro-wedding isn’t about having a scaled-down version of a traditional wedding. It’s about creating a different kind of celebration; one filled with presence, intention, and connection.
For many couples, that ends up being exactly what they were hoping for all along.
